The Kansai Food Expo 2025 is spotlighting high quality agricultural products from Taiwan, reflecting the country’s innovative techniques and demonstrating the global competitiveness of the local farming sector, the Ministry of Agriculture said July 23.
According to the MOA, 14 Taiwan firms are showcasing offerings such as fresh and frozen produce, fruit juice, processed aquatic and food products, rice and organic products at the event. The expo runs from July 23-25 on the sidelines of Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, and the Taiwan exhibits reflect prowess in food safety, quality control and innovation in research and development.
The ministry said Taiwan is known for the quality of agricultural products, and its traceability system ensures food safety for consumers both at home and abroad. Export promotion campaigns have seen strong success since last year.
Examples of high quality export items include pineapples to New Zealand, red dragon fruits and tiger groupers to Japan, and mangoes and guavas to 27 EU member states starting in June.
The MOA stressed that Taiwan was officially recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health earlier this year as the only Asian country free of African swine fever, classical swine fever and foot-and-mouth disease, adding that since 2023, the country has also begun to export pork and related products to the Philippines and Singapore.
To create more business opportunities in Kansai, the MOA helped organize a marketing event in March to promote tiger groupers from Taiwan and assist a local food company in cooperating with a Japanese restaurant chain. The government expects the expo to further expand the presence of Taiwan edibles in the Japanese region, it added. (SFC-E)
