Taiwan is the guest of honor at this year’s Hybrid Art Fair in Madrid, Spain, underscoring the deep artistic connections between the two countries, the Ministry of Culture said March 4.
Coordinated by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain’s Culture Division, more than 60 pieces by seven domestic artists are on display in “Taiwan Tide: The Power of Intermittence,” the MOC said.
Using intermittent movement as a metaphor, the exhibit produces a multilayer narrative encompassing Taiwan’s climate, geography and history to give festivalgoers a sense of the pulse and rhythm of the country, as well as the energy, creativity and future possibility between the ebb and flow.
Participating artists Chen Yu-jung, Chen Han-sheng, Chiang Mei-fang, Lee Heng, Liu Hsing-yu, Lo Yi-chun and Yang Yu-ning have contributed books, crafts, new media pieces, paintings and photography to “Taiwan Tide,” the MOC added.
Chang Yu-hsuan, director of the TECO in Spain’s Cultural Division, noted that the exhibit, curated by Walking Grass Agriculture, presents five exhibition spaces in addition to performances from Chen Yu-jung and Lo. Chang added that the exhibit would give European audiences insight into the vibrant creativity and unique charm of Taiwanese contemporary art.
Hybrid Art Fair centers on experimental proposals and installations to explore the potential of new artists. This year is the 10th edition, and draws 39 exhibitors from eleven countries including Germany, Japan, Switzerland and the U.S. (POC-E)
