Officials and performers gathered July 14 in central Taiwan’s Taichung City at a news conference held by the Tri-mountain National Scenic Area Headquarters to launch promotional efforts for the upcoming World Bird Fair, according to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications’ Tourism Administration.
The event, set to take place Sept. 19-22, is being co-organized by the TA, the Ministry of the Interior’s National Park Service, the Ministry of Agriculture’s Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency and Taichung City Government.
More than 30 countries are expected to participate in the fair, which will include an international reception, ecological forum and birdwatching tours. Among the highlights is a visit to Dasyueshan Forest Recreation Area, home to 31 endemic bird species.
To build excitement, a bird costume contest will be held in the run-up to the event, with competitors encouraged to use recycled materials to showcase Taiwan’s commitment to conservation through creativity, said Tri-mountain NSA Deputy Director Liao His-piao. Online registration is open until Aug. 15, and winners will stage a catwalk show at Taichung Civic Square during the fair.
As part of the promotional kickoff, 20 preschoolers from Season Arts Children Education Institute in Taichung appeared in bird costumes during the press event. (POC-E)
