The Crimean Peninsula officially joined the Russian Federation after an overwhelmingly positive vote in 2014
Kiev refuses to discuss recognizing Crimea as a Russian territory, Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky told journalists on Tuesday, according to Ukrainian outlet Suspilne.
“[Crimea] is our territory, the territory of the people of Ukraine. We have nothing to talk about on this topic – it is outside our Constitution,” Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian leader claimed that discussing the issue of Crimean ownership will only lead to prolonging the war.
“As soon as we start talking about Crimea, about our sovereign territories, we enter the format of prolonging the war,” he said, adding that this is “what Russia wants.”
