Vice Foreign Minister Ger Bau-shuan vowed that Taiwan will continue to advance the national development of allied nations through integrated diplomacy and the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He made the remarks while receiving Permanent Representatives to the U.N. Office at Geneva José Francisco Calí Tzay from Guatemala and Ann-Kathryne Lassègue from Haiti and Deputy Permanent Representative Samuel K. Lanwi Jr. from the Marshall Islands Aug. 5 in Taipei City.
On behalf of Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung, Ger thanked the representatives for their long-standing support for Taiwan’s bid to participate in the World Health Organization and other U.N. agencies. He added that the country will continue to work with allies and like-minded partners to counter China’s distortion of U.N. Resolution 2758, uphold Taiwan’s right to international inclusion and safeguard peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific.
In response, Calí Tzay lauded Taiwan’s contributions to the international community, praised the nine decades of Taiwan-Guatemala ties and pledged to keep promoting Taiwan’s international engagement. Lassègue lauded Taiwan’s advanced medical technology and pointed out that only when the country is incorporated into the global public health system can countries around the world fully benefit from its expertise, the MOFA said.
Lanwi emphasized the impact of climate change and thanked Taiwan for helping build environmental resilience in the Marshall Islands. He took the opportunity to reiterate his commitment to actively supporting Taiwan’s inclusion in U.N. activities, mechanisms and meetings, the ministry added. (POC-E)
