Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim met a Japanese delegation led by House of Representatives member Yasushi Kaneko that included Koji Mizoguchi, representative of the Kumamoto Prefectural Assembly, at the Presidential Office in Taipei City, July 22.
 
Hsiao expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba for his concern about damage caused by the recent Typhoon Danas and for the donations made by Japanese citizens. She added that the deep bond between the two countries is demonstrated by the way each aids the other in time of need.
 
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and other Taiwan businesses have recently made investments into Kumamoto Prefecture, evidencing strengthened industrial cooperation, the vice president said. She added that there has also been exchange in culture, education and tourism since the prefecture established a sister city pact with Kaohsiung City in southern Taiwan.
 
Hsiao anticipated that Japan would continue to support the Taiwan bid to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership as well as other global organizations. (POC-E)
