Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim anticipated Taiwan’s participation in the U.S.-led Pax Silica initiative working with like-minded partners to promote global artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Hsiao made the remarks in a pre-recorded video screened at the annual Hill & Valley Forum March 24 in Washington D.C. The vice president first thanked Jacob Helberg, under secretary of state for economic affairs, for inviting Taiwan, the Presidential Office said.
Amid long-term economic coercion, cyber warfare and military drills by China, Taiwan has enhanced its defense to focus on asymmetric systems, societal resilience including military training and civil defense. It is also implementing energy, information and communication resilience.
Hsiao said that it is necessary to incorporate civil innovation with indigenous production of defense equipment as shown at the Taipei Aerospace & Defense Technology Exhibition in September, 2025.
She further welcomed various initiatives to deepen Taiwan-U.S. cooperation. One of these is the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act that included provisions for the joint development of unmanned aircraft systems and counter-UAS capability, a result of bilateral partnerships in the defense industry.
The administration launched the Ten Major AI Infrastructure Projects and committed to provide US$250 billion in private investment to assist with the expansion of advanced semiconductor and AI manufacturing in the U.S, Hsiao said, noting that Taiwan is a major contributor to the U.S. AI hardware framework.
The vice president stated that within the international innovative ecosystem, Taiwan and the U.S. are indispensable and complementary partners and committed to joining forces with the U.S. to assist in its technological development. (POC-E)
