UpdatesVP Hsiao attends launch ceremony of Taiwan AI robot alliance
Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim said July 22 that the government is committed to creating a technology- and value-based innovative environment and positioning the country securely to compete in the global smart robotics market as Team Taiwan.

Hsiao made the remarks while attending the launch ceremony for a Taiwan artificial intelligence robot alliance in Taipei City. Set up by six industry associations including the Taichung City-headquartered Taiwan Automation and Intelligence Robotics Association, the alliance’s goal is to achieve more than NT$1 trillion (US$34.2 billion) in production output value by 2030.

The establishment demonstrated cooperation and unity among domestic industries and showed their innovative and forward-looking action in the face of future challenges, the vice president said. The AI robot sector will play a key role in the next industrial revolution, she noted, citing use of over 1 million robots by Amazon.com, Inc.

AI robots are indispensable in the information and communications technology industry and other sectors and can help solve social issues such as an aging population and lack of employees, as well as provide home care and medical care services, Hsiao said.

The vice president said that the government will encourage balanced development among industries and regions when promoting the AI policy, adding that measures in the pipeline include ways to increase demand and applications, regulatory legislation, technology integration and international partnerships. The vice president concluded by reasserting that Taiwan has an essential role in introducing AI robots into various sectors internationally. (YCH-E)
