Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim expressed hope for continued cooperation with Latvia in industry and security.
Hsiao made the remarks April 7 while receiving a delegation led by Ingrīda Circene, chair of the Saeima’s Latvia-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group, at the Presidential Office in Taipei City. Other members included Agita Zariņa-Stūre and Līga Kozlovska, chairs of the Saeima’s Education, Culture and Science Committee and Public Health Subcommittee, respectively, according to the Presidential Office.
In her remarks, the vice president said that despite the geographical distance between Taiwan and Latvia, the two sides share concerns about strengthening democratic systems amid geopolitical challenges. She added that Taiwan does not take its freedom for granted and continues to enhance its self-defense capabilities.
Hsiao emphasized that Taiwan’s strengths in artificial intelligence hardware manufacturing and semiconductors offer strong potential for further cooperation with Latvia in AI and unmanned systems. Taiwan aims to leverage its industrial advantages to reinforce national security, she added. (POC-E)
