MOSCOW, October 9: Russia is ready to participate in solving global food problems and help especially the poorest countries, President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday in a video speech on the occasion of the Day of Agricultural and Manufacturing Workers.
Work under unprecedented sanctions pressure poses new challenges to the agriculture sector, the President Putin said.
We fully meet the domestic demand for basic staples and provide reliable food security. In addition, we are building our export potential and – I would like to emphasize this – we are ready to contribute to overcoming global food challenges and provide the necessary assistance to the poorest, developing countries,” said the head of state. .
All this is a direct result of the efforts of agricultural and processing industry workers, their difficult but very important and responsible work, noted Putin.
“Working under the unprecedented pressure of sanctions presents new challenges for the agricultural sector,” the president said. “We will solve them together, with the support of the state, using the imposed restrictions for our own development,” he added.
“We must increase technological sovereignty in agriculture. Therefore, we must increase our potential in selection, genetics and breeding of seeds, support the transition to modern domestic equipment and technologies, and create conditions for further investment inflow,” said the Russian leader. The national government approved an updated sector strategy in September that includes these tasks, Putin added.
