Tensions on the US-Canadian border bridge eased slightly on Saturday after Canadian police urged protesters to remove trucks they had used to prevent them from crossing a busy country. But protesters are still blocking entry as it is getting dark, with traffic jams and trade between the two countries on the sixth day.
A bone of contention
As of Monday, angry protesters over the approval of the COVID-19 vaccine and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have suspended access to the Canadian side of the Ambassador Bridge linking Detroit to Windsor, Ontario, a major commercial highway.
Freedom of authority “
Surrounded by dozens of police officers, a man with “Mandate Freedom” and “Trump 2024″ who sprayed his car off the bridge early in the morning as some began demolishing a small canvas-covered camp. The truck driver blew his horn while he was driving, cheering and chanting “ Freedom! ”
Face off
But hundreds of other protesters stormed off to try to dissuade the crowd from escorting the police into a barracks, some distance away, waving flags and shouting. Although there was no apparent collision, the crowd was still on the road leading to the bridge, and the traffic had not resumed since the evening.
Protesters protesting the strike
In Ottawa, mass protests have risen to thousands as they have been over the weekend, and music is loud as people roam the city where anti-vaccine protesters have been camping since late January. Hundreds also protested, one holding a sign that read, “Honk if the rules work.”
