US flashes its new B-21 ‘Raider’ stealth bomber

The U.S. Air Force unveiled a new B-21 stealth bomber that should help strengthen the U.S.’s deterrence against China.

An unveiling ceremony was held in California on Friday.

The B-21 Raider was developed by the American manufacturer Northrop Grumman, which produces the currently deployed B-2 stealth bomber.

The company claims the new strategic bomber is capable of delivering a nuclear payload and has advanced stealth capabilities that make it difficult for enemy radar to detect. The plane can be flown even without a pilot.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin noted that the B-21 is the first strategic bomber the U.S. military has fielded in more than three decades.

He said strengthening and maintaining America’s deterrence is at the heart of the nation’s defense strategy.

President Joe Biden’s administration is working to modernize America’s nuclear capabilities as it remains on high alert against China’s growing nuclear arsenal.

The US Air Force plans to enter service with the B-21 in the mid-2020s and maintain a fleet of at least 100.

American media claim that the new bomber should play a key role in deterring China.
