FM Lin receives Estonia delegation

Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung met with a delegation led by Kristo Enn Vaga, chair of the Estonia-Taiwan Friendship Group.

The delegation is on a five-day visit and are scheduled to meet with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim and National Security Council Secretary General Jaushieh Joseph Wu. The group will also visit the Ministry of Defense, Taoyuan City-based Taiwan Defense Industry Development Association and the Asia UAV AI Innovation Application R&D Center in southern Taiwan’s Chiayi County, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Lin noted that authoritarian expansion such as Russian’s ongoing war with Ukraine and China’s military exercises around Taiwan, highlight the need for cooperation between democracies. Lin led a drone industry delegation to Lithuania in November 2024 in support of democratic supply chains with like-minded countries.

Vaga said that both countries are subject to cyber-attacks, disinformation and have both recently had marine communication cables damaged. He called on democracies to unite and jointly respond to challenges and threats.

Minister Lin thanked corporate representatives from Changhua County- based Motex Group and Taoyuan City-based Taiwan Champ Manufacturing Co. for the donation of 1.11 million face masks to Estonia and Ukraine. Vaga will assist in their distribution to local governments and medical facilities in Estonia and Ukraine, the ministry added. (POC-E)
