Heli Everest chopper crash-lands in Nepal; no casualties reported

9 April: A private helicopter of Heli Everest, a helicopter service provider in Nepal, crash-landed near Dhaulagiri base camp in West Central Nepal on Sunday morning. The pilot and the passenger, who were carrying goods for Italian mountaineers, were rescued unhurt from the site, officials said.

The chopper, which took off at 11.1 am on Sunday, had lost contact after it was hit by strong winds. Phurwa Sherpa of Heli Everest said that the wreckage of the helicopter was located at 12:40 pm, and the pilot was safely rescued and flown to Kathmandu for medical treatment.

“The chopper was flown by Priya Adhikari, the only female helicopter pilot of Nepal. The pilot and a Nepali Sherpa passenger who were on board the chopper have been rescued from the site unhurt. They were flown to Kathmandu after first aid treatment,” he said.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has formed a committee to investigate into the incident. This is not the first time that a helicopter has crashed in Nepal. In 2019, a Dynasty Air helicopter carrying high-level government officials crashed in eastern Nepal due to bad weather, killing all seven people on board.
