Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday lauded the Indian Constitution as a guiding light that has lived up to the nation’s expectations and needs, highlighting its role in shaping India’s transformation. Speaking at the Constitution Day celebrations held in the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister emphasized the Constitution’s enduring relevance in steering the country through monumental changes.
“Our Constitution has fulfilled every expectation and need of the country. It is due to its power that the vision of Baba Saheb’s Constitution has been fully realized in Jammu and Kashmir,” PM Modi said, referring to the complete implementation of the Indian Constitution in the region following the abrogation of Article 370. He added that for the first time, Constitution Day was also celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir, marking a historic milestone.
The Prime Minister underscored the transformative phase India is currently experiencing and attributed this progress to the Constitution’s guiding principles. Quoting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Constitution, he said, “The Constitution is not a mere lawyer’s document; its spirit is always the spirit of the age.”
PM Modi also paid homage to the victims of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, which coincides with Constitution Day, and issued a stern warning to terrorist organizations. “Those who challenge India’s security will face a befitting response. I pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the Mumbai terror attack and reiterate the country’s commitment to safeguarding its security.”
As part of the celebrations, Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna presented PM Modi with a painting created by a prisoner from Tihar Jail. Additionally, the Prime Minister released the Annual Report of Indian Judiciary 2023-24, showcasing the judiciary’s achievements and initiatives over the past year.
Marking the 75th year of the adoption of the Indian Constitution, PM Modi expressed pride in the nation’s journey, saluting the members of the Constituent Assembly who laid the foundation for a modern, democratic India. “This Constitution is our guiding light, ensuring that our democracy thrives and our nation progresses,” he said.
