“Home Ministry To Hold Crucial Meeting On J&K And G20 Summit Preparations”

New Delhi: Ahead of the review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, a vital meeting for the G20 summit preparations in the union territory will take place in the North Block.

A senior officer informed that the ministry will assess the current security situation and the developmental progress of various projects.

The meeting will be headed by top officials of the Home Ministry and will cover preparations for G-20 summit meetings in Srinagar in May, the security situation and the status of various developmental projects in the union territory among other important issues.

Officials said that Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh and Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta are among the top officials who are likely to join the meeting at 5 pm.

The official also said that they will discuss the status of preparations for hosting the G20 dignitaries and the venues for the events. The overall security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir is also on the agenda.

Kashmir is ready to host the G20 meeting from May 22-25 and the union territory administration is making tight security arrangements for the high-profile event with special forces and anti-drone technology from New Delhi.

Official sources said that delegates from almost all countries of G20, except China, will attend the meeting on Working Group of Tourism in Srinagar on May 23. The G20 delegates will arrive in Srinagar on May 22 and the meeting of the group will take place on May 23.

The delegates will visit major tourist attractions on May 24 in Srinagar including Dal Lake where they will enjoy a Shikara ride, Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary and some other significant places. They will also visit north Kashmir’s ski-resort Gulmarg. They will depart to New Delhi on May 25.”

According to an official, the meeting will also address the economic benefits of the increased number of visitors in Kashmir.

“The tourism sector is booming and we will review its impact on the economy,” the official said. The meeting on Thursday, chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah and attended by Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha, will evaluate the outcomes of today’s meeting.
