IISF 2024: India’s largest science festival kicks off at IIT Guwahati

The 10th India International Science Festival (IISF) kicked off on Saturday at IIT Guwahati and will run until December 4. Centered around the theme “Transforming India into an S&T-driven Global Manufacturing Hub,” the event highlights India’s scientific achievements, fosters collaboration, and inspires innovation among young minds.

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), with coordination by its National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST), leads this year’s festival. First launched in 2015, IISF is a unique platform for engaging society with science, offering activities for professionals and the general public alike. This marks the first time the festival is hosted in northeast India.

Key highlights include the “Chandrayaan – Museum of the Moon,” an artistic lunar model celebrating India’s Chandrayaan-3 success, and a Mega Science and Technology Exhibition displaying cutting-edge innovations in STEM fields. Other notable events include the Make in India, Make for the World forum, a Women in STEM conclave, a Start-up showcase, and the North East Cultural Fest spotlighting the region’s traditions and heritage.

The festival is supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology, along with partners like Vijnana Bharati, and various governmental and private institutions. Attendance is free, offering the public an opportunity to engage with India’s scientific achievements and innovations.
