INDIA: Anti-Maritime Piracy Bill likely to be passed today

The Wildlife (Protection) Bill, 2022 was passed by voice vote in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. It seeks to strengthen the protection of endangered species and toughen penalties for illegal wildlife trade.

The bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on August 2 during the monsoon session.

The Center also said there are no plans to reinstate the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC).

The winter session will continue until December 29 with a total of 17 working days. On the agenda of this session is the presentation of 16 new laws.

Anti-Piracy Bill to be considered today

Bills to be considered and which will be passed in Parliament today include the Anti-Maritime Piracy Bill, 2019, and the Multi-State Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2022.

Other bills likely to be introduced include the Constitution (Scheduled Tribal) Order (Second Amendment) Bill, 2022, and the Constitution (Third Amendment) Constitution Order (Third Amendment) Bill, 2022, PTI reported.
