Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday assured the nation that India has ample food reserves and there is no shortage of essential agricultural commodities. He said that the country’s agricultural stockpiles are at full capacity.
While soldiers are stationed at the border, Chouhan emphasized that farmers continue to work diligently in the fields. He also announced that the Centre is formulating a new scheme aimed at boosting crop production.
“As the agriculture department, our responsibility is to ensure food security. Our agricultural reserves are full—whether it’s wheat, rice, or other grains, we have sufficient quantities. Soldiers are at the borders, and farmers are in the fields. Our scientists are standing with them. We have designed a scheme to enhance the production of Kharif crops. It is our duty to work hand in hand with farmers to increase output,” Chouhan said during a press conference.
His remarks come amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan after Indian forces destroyed nine terrorist camps in Pakistan under Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation for the Pahalgam terrorist attack that claimed 26 lives.
The Union Minister condemned the killing of innocent civilians in Pahalgam, vowing that terrorists will not be spared. He clarified that Indian strikes targeted only terrorist facilities, not civilian infrastructure.
“In Pahalgam, innocent civilians were killed by terrorists—husbands were shot in front of their wives, and fathers were gunned down before their sons in the name of religion. India is determined to root out terrorism. We are proud of our armed forces. We will not spare the terrorists. Our strikes hit terror hotspots, not civilians. The army is fighting against the evil actions perpetrated by Pakistan,” he added.
On Thursday, a complete blackout was enforced in Jammu after sirens were heard and explosions were reported near the Line of Control in Poonch and Rajouri districts, amid rising tensions.
Meanwhile, the Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a major infiltration attempt along the International Boundary in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The attempt was made around 11 p.m. on May 8. In a post on X, BSF Jammu wrote, “At around 2300 hours on May 8, 2025, BSF foiled a major infiltration bid at the International Boundary in Samba district, J&K.”
