The SC will hear a plea related to the (EWS) quota in connection with the NEET-PG counseling

NEET PG counsel 2021: The Supreme Court can hear a plea concerning the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota in reference to the NEET-PG counseling on Wednesday, following the center’s request on an urgent hearing within the matter.

A bench comprising judge of Asian nation (CJI) N V Ramana and justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli took note of the submissions of solicitor general Tushar Mehta, who appeared in the court on behalf of the Centre, that the matter pertains to admissions to post-graduate medical courses and that students are facing difficulties.

A bench headed by Justice metallic element Chandrachud told the Centre on Monday that a bench of requisite strength is often found out by the CJI because the EWS quota matter is being detected by a three-judge bench.

Large-scale protests are controlled by resident doctors of varied hospitals below the banner of the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) in the metropolis and other components of the country over a delay within the NEET-PG counseling, that has been postponed due to the Centre deciding to get back the criteria for the determination of the EWS quota.

In its official document filed within the apex court, the Centre has said it’s decided to just accept the recommendations of a three-member panel to retain this gross annual family financial gain limit for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) at Rs 8 large lakh or less.

The govt. has conjointly told the court that in step with the panel, family income could be a “feasible criterion” for outlining EWS and in the current situation, a threshold of Rs 8 lakh of annual family income seems cheap for determinant EWS.
