WAVES: Prasar Bharati’s all-in-one OTT platform for family-friendly entertainment

WAVES, a new OTT platform launched by Prasar Bharati, is rapidly emerging as a comprehensive digital hub offering family-friendly entertainment and services under one roof. The platform, available on Android and iOS devices, provides a blend of live TV, on-demand videos, digital radio, gaming, and even online shopping.

Addressing a press conference at Doordarshan Kendra Panaji on Thursday, Sunil Bhatiya, Deputy Director General of Doordarshan Kendra Panaji, described WAVES as a “one-stop digital hub” designed to cater to audiences of all age groups. “With clean and inclusive content, the platform celebrates India’s rich cultural heritage while serving as a source of education, entertainment, and e-commerce,” he said.

Launched in November 2024, WAVES currently offers content in 12 languages, with plans to expand coverage to all prominent Indian languages, including Konkani. Highlighting Goa’s presence on the platform, Shri Bhatiya noted that content from DD Panaji, including programming in Konkani, is already available. One key feature is the documentary “Famously Found @15”, produced by DD Panaji, which chronicles the life of Brahmanand Sankhwalkar—a legendary Goan footballer and former Indian national team captain. The 40-minute film documents his 25-year-long career, which began when he started playing football at age 15.

WAVES offers access to over 70 live TV channels, including those from Doordarshan and Akashvani, as well as private networks such as B4U, SAB Group, and 9X Media. The platform also features video-on-demand across 10 popular genres, digital radio streaming, interactive play-to-play games, and curated content for youth and families. A unique integration with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) allows users to shop online directly within the app.

Most of the platform’s content is available free of cost, with premium features accessible through affordable subscription plans.

Also present at the press conference were Shashin Rai, Deputy Director (News), DD Panaji, and Savio de Noronha, Head of Programmes, DD Panaji, who echoed the vision of WAVES as a culturally enriching and inclusive digital platform for the entire family.
