Passenger train derails after colliding with freight train in Netherlands, several injured

4 April: A passenger train carrying at least 50 people collided with a freight train and derailed in the Netherlands, causing a fire and ‘serious injuries’ to several people, local authorities said on Tuesday.

The front carriage of the passenger train went off the rails and crashed into a field, while the second carriage tipped over and the rear carriage caught fire, according to ANP news agency.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the accident near Voorschoten, a village between The Hague and Amsterdam, and started rescue operations.

The accident disrupted train services between Leiden city and some parts of The Hague, Dutch Railways (NS) tweeted.
