RSS Holds Peaceful Route Marches in Tamil Nadu After SC Nod

“Following the Supreme Court’s approval, the RSS organised route marches in 45 places in Tamil Nadu on Sunday. The events were peaceful and had security arrangements, according to the police.

Union Minister of State L Murugan joined the meets in various parts of the state such as Chennai, Madurai, Kancheepuram and Chengalpet.

The RSS volunteers, wearing their distinctive white shirts with rolled up sleeves and khaki pants, marched along the routes that had police protection.

The police said the route marches were peaceful.

The Supreme Court had upheld the Madras High Court’s orders on April 11 that allowed the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) to conduct marches in the State and rejected the Tamil Nadu government’s appeals. The RSS said that the route march was part of its regular training.

“The organisation’s members are well-trained Swayamsevaks (volunteers). They include daily wage workers, students, professionals, factory workers and office workers. Swayamsevaks who work with other organisations also participate,” the RSS said in a statement.

“The Sangh route march is a public display of the organisation’s training skills and the exemplary discipline of ordinary citizens. The RSS does its route march to inspire confidence among the general public that Hindu society can walk in an organised, disciplined and timely manner,” it added.”
