Suvendu Adhikari urges CBI to Probe Mamata Banerjee for Saradha scam

Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in West Bengal, slammed the TMC government led by Mamata Banerjee and urged the central agencies to investigate the Chief Minister for her alleged role in the Saradha scam.

Mr Adhikari, who belongs to the BJP, praised the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for issuing a fresh notice to TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who is also Mamata’s nephew, in relation to a teacher’s recruitment scam in the state.

Here in Singur, Hooghly, the BJP leader said, “CBI is doing an excellent and pro-active job. The state government is not cooperating with the agency, but the agency is working swiftly.

TMC MLA Jiban Krishna Saha attempted to grab his phone from the officers and destroy the evidence. CBI’s action is justified and it should continue, otherwise Mamata and her associates will erase all the evidence”.

He also demanded that the central agencies investigate Mamata Banerjee for her involvement in the Saradha scam.

He said, “Abhishek Banerjee is facing several cases. I only demand that the central agencies take action against the aunt-nephew duo (Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee).

CBI has sufficient evidence to investigate Mamata for the Sharda scam but it is not doing so. If Delhi CM Kejriwal can be questioned for the excise policy case, why not Mamata?”

He added, “There is also a lot of evidence against Abhishek Banerjee and his family members. The people of Bengal want to know why he is not being held accountable.

I am also raising this issue in all my rallies and campaigns. If I am lying, why doesn’t he (Abhishek Banerjee) sue me for defamation?”

Regarding the rumours of TMC leader Mukul Roy joining the BJP, Mr Adhikari dismissed them and said that the party does not want “such people”.

“Our focus is on making our booths stronger under ‘Mera Booth Sabse Majboot (My booth is the strongest)’. We are working hard to win over the non-BJP voters. We are self-reliant and we don’t need any other leader,” Mr Adhikari said.

He also criticised the West Bengal CM for asking Union Home Minister Amit Shah to resign and said that she is doing it out of “fear psychosis”.

“Mamata Banerjee called Amit Shah a goon, and me a robber. She is making such immoral statements only because of fear psychosis.

She phoned the Home Minister four times in the last month asking him to look at her party’s national status. But, the Home Minister told her clearly, that ECI is a free and constitutional body and follows the laws,” Mr Adhikari added.

The BJP leader also said that TMC has never faced an “active opposition” like the BJP in its rule in Bengal.

“TMC has never encountered an active opposition like us (BJP) in its rule. She had an understanding with both CPM and Congress. But, we have always raised public issues, and demanded a probe into every corruption charge.

Our 70 MLAs can take on TMC’s 200 MLAs. All of them in TMC are crooks and will land in jail,” Mr Adhikari said.
