Recently, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was seen on video shopping for vegetables during her day-long visit to Chennai. The video was shared by her office on Twitter and drew mixed reactions from netizens.
The video received both praise and criticism. While some users commented on the rising prices of vegetables. Some have even wondered if the finance minister now understands how inflation affects household budgets.
In the video, the finance minister was seen buying sweet potatoes and interacting with vegetable vendors.
“During her day-long visit to Chennai, Smt @nsitharaman stopped at Mylapore market where she interacted with vendors and locals and also bought vegetables,” NSitharamanOffice tweeted.
Retail inflation in India was at 7 percent in August, above the RBI’s comfort level of 6 percent, mainly due to higher food prices.
