Speaking after the felicitation of around 100 women with awards instituted by the DCW, Swati Maliwal said there used to be a time she would hide under her bed out of fear.
Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal Sobota said she was sexually abused by her father when she was a child.
After blessing about 100 women with the awards instituted by DCW, Maliwal said there were times when she used to hide under the bed out of fear.
“I was sexually abused by my father when I was a child. He beat me; I was hiding under the bed. As a child, I planned how to teach a lesson to such men who abuse women and children and how I can help women get what they deserve,” she said.
Maliwal said her father grabbed her hair and slammed her against a wall, which would have resulted in severe injuries. “That happened until I was in Grade 4, then we left him,” she said.
The DCW boss said she believes that when a person goes through such problems in life, they are able to understand the pain of others and become passionate enough to change the system.
“I think the same thing happened with me and our next award must have a similar story.” Our awards have inspired us to live life positively despite the struggle,” she said.
The awards were given to those who have demonstrated extraordinary courage and determination to empower women.
