The 2026 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Youth Engagement Workshop: Connectivity and Partnerships for Openness, Innovation, and Cooperation is underway through July 2 in Taipei City, according to the Ministry of Education.

The workshop aims to give participants a deeper understanding of APEC and facilitate exchanges among youth in the region, the MOE said. The workshop drew 31 trainees from Brunei, Canada, Chile, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Mexico, Peru, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and the U.S.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Joyce Yu-jiuan Lee, director general of the ministry’s Department of International and Cross-Strait Education, noted that the region faces challenges such as digital transformation. To sustain regional prosperity, it is vital to cultivate young talent with in-depth knowledge of APEC’s operations and regional issues, as well as strong cross-cultural communication skills, she said.

During the two-day workshop, participants will be introduced to APEC’s organizational structure, operations and Human Resources Development Working Group. They will also take part in a model conference to gain insight into negotiations at international conventions, the ministry said.

The MOE said it hopes the workshop will help participants become active advocates for regional collaboration. It added that it will continue promoting international exchange to enhance Taiwan’s global visibility. (POC-E)
