The Bulgarian aviation authorities have refused to a approve a charter flight for the team
The actions of Bulgaria’s aviation authorities have nearly cost the Russian gymnastics team their place at the European Championship. The civil aviation administration has refused to approve a charter flight for the athletes before the competition, which is being held in the city of Varna.
The aviation authorities used an unknown reason to justify the refusal. The team still arrived in Varna on an alternative flight on Tuesday, just a day before the start of the competition, which was held between May 27 and May 31.
The Russian Gymnastics Federation had to promptly approach another carrier – Turkish Airlines – and ask it to provide a bigger aircraft for a regular Istanbul-Varna flight to facilitate the team’s trip to the competition since there were not enough tickets for regular flights on the needed dates.
