Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs Isabel Hou made a speech April 20 in Italy at the Privacy Symposium in Venice, an event that promotes international dialogue, cooperation and knowledge sharing on data governance, compliance and innovative technologies.
 
Hou gave a talk entitled “AI for Taiwan: From Talent, Data to Governance,” as part of the “High-Level Addresses on AI Governance” session hosted by Chair Sébastien Ziegler. Other session participants included Sirpa Rautio, director of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights and Alberto Gago Fernández, the director general of the Spanish Agency for the Supervision of Artificial Intelligence (AESIA).

Hou noted that Taiwan promulgated an Artificial Intelligence Basic Act in January 2026, laying a legal framework for AI governance ensuring innovation and security. She added that MODA raises industry competitiveness through organizing courses, internships and competitions to support Taiwan’s key role in the international AI industry supply chain.
 
Privacy Symposium is a multilateral dialogue platform hosted by Ca’Foscari University and organised in collaboration with several partners, including the Data Protection Unit of the Council of Europe, the European Centre for Certification and Privacy (ECCP), the Italian Institute for Privacy (IIP), the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA), Mandat International and IoT Lab. This edition was attended by representatives from the European Data Protection Board, European Data Protection Supervisor, the France National Commission on Informatics and Liberty and the U.K. Information Commissioner's Office, the ministry stated.
 
Hou’s participation heralds future bilateral and multilateral cooperation, strengthening international exchange to forge a trustworthy digital environment. (POC-E)
