Drone attack on Moscow thwarted – mayor

An unmanned aerial vehicle heading toward Moscow has been shot down by Russian air defenses, Mayor Sergey Sobyanin has said

An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) drone has sought to “breach” the Russian air defenses and reach Moscow, the Russian capital’s mayor, Sergey Sobyanin said in his Telegram channel on Sunday. The remotely piloted aircraft was downed by the Russian troops and did not hit its target, he added.

“A drone attempted to break though towards Moscow today, around 11:00,” the mayor said in a short statement. “It was destroyed by the air defenses on the approach,” he added, thanking the Russian military for the effort.

The mayor did not provide any further details on the incident. The type and the origin of the drone as well as its exact downing location remain unclear.
