Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung is set to lead a delegation to ally Palau Aug. 27-Sept. 3 to attend events related to the 55th Pacific Islands Forum, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Lin will attend the Taiwan/Republic of China-Forum Countries Dialogue organized by the PIF Secretariat, the MOFA said, adding that the minister will also attend the Pacific Prosperity Exhibit to witness the results of regional cooperative projects spanning climate change adaptation, digital resilience, infrastructure, renewable energy and smart medicine.
Representatives from Taipei City-based Asia Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce, as well as those from Taiwan’s construction, food, energy, organic farming and technology sectors, will also take part in the exhibit and other networking events to facilitate industry cooperation and technical exchanges, the ministry said.
In addition to joining the dialogue and exhibit, Lin will meet with Palau President Surangel S. Whipps Jr. and Vice President Raynold B. Oilouch, visit Belau National Hospital in Koror, and review the progress of other bilateral initiatives.
Under the Five Trusted Industry Sectors initiative, Taiwan is actively promoting the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project and the eight flagship projects by integrating civic, interministerial and industrial resources and leveraging the country’s industrial, professional and technological advantages to address the needs of allies and like-minded partners. This approach aligns with Palau and the PIF’s goals of regional cooperation and sustainable development, the ministry said.
Taiwan supports the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent and has participated in regional projects like the Pacific Resilience Facility while sharing experience with PIF member nations through professional training sessions and scholarships, demonstrating its long-term commitment to regional development partnership, the MOFA added.
The government pledged to continue deepening links with PIF and its member countries to jointly uphold the rules-based international order and advance peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific, the ministry concluded. (POC-E)
