Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung hosted a banquet for a Marshall Islands delegation led by Minister of Natural Resources and Commerce Anthony Muller Oct. 20 in Taipei City.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides exchanged views on a wide range of issues including trade and investment, agricultural and fishery cooperation and aviation connection, and expressed a wish to continue deepening the two-way ties for mutual prosperity.

Lin welcomed the delegation to the first joint committee meeting under the Taiwan-Marshall Islands Economic Cooperation Agreement. He praised the event as a new milestone in the two allies’ relations that will help promote bilateral trade, investment and industrial cooperation and create more opportunities for businesses of both countries.

The minister recalled his April visit to the Marshall Islands as head of a trade delegation to take part in an investment promotion event convened by Muller, adding that it laid a solid foundation for bilateral trade partnerships.

Lin specified that six firms from the Marshall Islands, along with its Marine Resources Authority, are taking part in the Kaohsiung Food Show being held Oct. 22-25, adding that he hoped the event to help expand the market presence of the ally’s products in Taiwan and around the world.

In response, Muller thanked the government of Taiwan for its hospitality and commended its long-term support for the Marshall Islands’ economic development and the well-being of its people. He expected the visit to pave way for further cooperation in fisheries, cold chain logistics and other related sectors. (SFC-E)
