Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung received a delegation from the Japan Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce Aug. 18 in Taipei City and thanked the business entity for promoting bilateral exchange.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the group was led by new JTCC President Lai Ben-mian, and comprised executives including Honorary President Kiyoryu Togo and Hung Yi-fen, Lai’s predecessor.
Lin said the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Kumamoto plant marks yet another milestone in Taiwan-Japan relations. Following the earthquake that hit Kumamoto last month, the MOFA immediately set up an aid account, which has received more than 19,000 donations totaling NT$280 million (US$8.77 million) so far. Lin added that such mutual care and support during disasters further underscored the deep bond between the two sides.
The minister said the number of mutual visits hit a record high last year thanks to the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, and that he anticipated the number to scale another new high this year. Lin also highlighted visits by several parliamentary delegations from Japan to Taiwan recently and looked forward to continuing expanded exchange.
In response, Lai said the JTCC has worked closely with Taiwan’s representative offices for years to enhance the visibility and understanding of Taiwan for Japanese society through various public activities and venues.
The close bilateral interaction in semiconductor supply chains, urban exchange, tourism and education underscore the mutual and beneficial nature of the ties, Lai said, adding that the JTCC will continue to garner support for Taiwan. (SFC-E)
