Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung met with Belize Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology CEO Dian Maheia and University of Belize President Vincent Palacio April 16 in Taipei City to exchange views on areas of mutual interest.

Lin said education and talent cultivation are key areas of bilateral cooperation. He named a long-running scholarship program for Belizean students in Taiwan as an example, noting that it helps develop talent for Belize while serving as a bridge between the two allies.

The minister also praised Belize’s tourism sector, citing its strategic location between Central America and the Caribbean. He said Taiwan will continue working with Belize to promote sustainable tourism, support hospitality personnel development and expand bilateral cooperation.

In response, Maheia thanked Taiwan for its support in talent cultivation. She said she valued opportunities to engage directly with faculty and students at Taiwan’s universities and vocational schools to exchange teaching ideas and practical experience.

Palacio expressed hope for expanded mutually beneficial cooperation between universities and vocational institutions in both countries. He said such collaboration would create win-win results for both sides.

According to the MOFA, Maheia first visited Taiwan in May 2024 for the inauguration of President Lai Ching-te and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim. During their April 12-16 visit, the delegation called on the Ministry of Education and several higher education institutions, and attended a luncheon hosted by Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi.
