Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung received a delegation comprising members of the Japan Innovation Party Sept. 7 in Taipei City and discussed a wide range of issues with the visiting parliamentarians.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the group was headed by Rep. Nobuyuki Baba, leader of a research group under the party, and comprised 10 other members of the Japanese National Diet and two staffers.
Lin said the party has been a long-standing friend of Taiwan, supporting the further development of the two-way ties and contributing generously to post-disaster reconstruction in the wake of the Hualien earthquakes of 2018 and 2024.
As the two sides’ industrial sectors are highly complementary in nature, he hoped that Taiwan and Japan will continue deepening partnerships in areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, aviation, energy, social resilience and economic security to build a trusted and resilient non-red supply chain.
The minister also thanked the JIP for consistently emphasizing the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and Indo-Pacific security. He looked forward to seeing the two sides expand cooperation to fulfill a vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific.
In response, Baba thanked the government and people of Taiwan for their condolences and donations following the Kumamoto earthquake. He called on both sides to enhance cooperation in response to challenges such as regional security developments and energy issues.
The MOFA said the delegation is the largest from the party to visit Taiwan since it formed a coalition government with the Liberal Democratic Party last October, and reflects the importance the JIP places on relations with Taiwan. (SFC-E)
