Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung received Miguel Ángel Aranda, deputy minister for administration and technical affairs at the Paraguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aug. 25 in Taipei City on his first visit to Taiwan.
Lin spoke of the strength of the long-lasting bond between the two countries and the successes of their bilateral cooperation in areas spanning higher education, public health and medical care, smart transportation, trade and high-tech development.
The foreign minister also expressed gratitude to President Santiago Peña for his steadfast support for Taiwan in various international forums. As the allies prepare to celebrate 70 years of official ties in 2027, Lin said he looked forward to further projects that will benefit the people of both countries.
In response, Aranda thanked Taiwan for continuously supporting Paraguay’s national development and helping to enhance the well-being of its people. He praised President Lai Ching-te’s vision to revitalize the Taiwan-Paraguay Smart Technology Park and jointly develop an artificial intelligence computing center.
Earlier the same day Deputy Minister Chen Ming-chi hosted a luncheon for Aranda and said he personally witnessed the success of bilateral collaboration during his visit to the South American ally in June. He hoped to see the planned AI cooperatoin further expand the Taiwan-Paraguay partnership and make it a model for the rest of the world.
Aranda said Taiwan is one of Paraguay’s most important global partners. Taiwan deserves a place in the international community, he said, adding that the government will continue to support Taiwan’s international participation. (SFC-E)
