Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung received a cross-party legislative delegation from Ukraine July 9 in Taipei City, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Led by Yulia Sirko, first deputy head of the parliamentary Transport and Infrastructure Committee, the group included Ihor Huz, Oksana Savchuk and Sviatoslav Yuras, the MOFA said.
In his remarks, Lin noted that since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Taiwan has staunchly supported the Eastern European country, citing its assistance with the establishment of a smart medicine system at the UNBROKEN Ecosystem medical center in Lviv as well as a 5G smart city demonstration zone project in Bucha.
The foreign minister pointed out that Taiwan also collaborates with like-minded countries including Czechia, Estonia, Lithuania and Poland to provide relief to Ukraine. He anticipated expanded cooperation and exchanges with Ukraine amid the severe threat to cross-strait stability posed by China’s authoritarian expansion.
In response, Sirko thanked Taiwan for its continued humanitarian assistance and said the two sides have potential for collaboration in a variety of fields, particularly in drone components. The cross-party delegation’s visit demonstrates the Ukrainian Parliament’s support for Taiwan, she said, pledging to continue promoting bilateral ties.
In addition to attending the China in the World Summit and the Taiwan International Ocean Forum, the group met with members of the Research Institute for Democracy, Society and Emerging Technology; International Cooperation and Development Fund; and Taiwan International Healthcare Training Center to exchange views on democratic resilience, drone cooperation and Taiwan Strait peace, the ministry added.
