Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung received a contingent led by Susan M. Elliott, president and CEO of the National Committee on American Policy, Oct. 27 in Taipei City.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the NCAFP is a U.S.-based think tank that researches the cross-strait status quo as well as U.S.-China relations. The MOFA also said the organization’s continued support of Taiwan-U.S. partnerships and its active promotion of multilateral dialogue have facilitated stable development in the region.
Lin remarked conditions in the Taiwan Strait are closely linked to global economy, security and trade. He said that the MOFA is committed to strengthening economic and trade diplomacy and building resilient ties with the U.S. and Europe to jointly safeguard peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.
Under the mechanisms of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade, U.S.-Taiwan Economic Prosperity Partnership Dialogue and a memorandum of understanding on investment, as well as the Joint Statement on the Pax Silica Declaration and U.S.-Taiwan Economic Security Cooperation, the two countries have continued to expand and deepen collaboration, the minister said. He cited Taiwan’s establishment of industry clusters in Europe and the U.S. as an example of its dedication to creating mutually beneficial bonds through economic means.
The MOFA said that despite China’s gray zone threats, Taiwan remains firm in upholding democracy and freedom through investment in national defense. (POC-E)
