Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung attended festivities organized by the French Office in Taipei in honor of the country’s national holiday July 14 in Taipei City, where they celebrated the friendship and cooperation between Taiwan and France.

Taiwan and France both value liberty, equality and fraternity, and are core partners in safeguarding democracy, Lin said. This strong consensus has translated into firm French support for peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, he added.

According to Lin, the two partners enjoy close cooperation in areas spanning artificial intelligence, satellite technology, semiconductors and the manufacturing of solid-state batteries, making Taiwan an indispensable strategic partner to France in its efforts to achieve strategic autonomy and reindustrialization. The foreign minister also thanked Franck Paris, director of the French Office in Taipei, for his contributions to strengthening bilateral ties during his three-year tenure.

In response, Paris said that his stay has given him great insight into Taiwan’s democratic and industrial success, the latter of which he described as a result of the Taiwan’s unique academic, research and development ecosystem. He added that Taiwan and France are working closely together in the fields of culture, cutting-edge industry, and science and technology R&D, and thanked Lin and Deputy Foreign Minister François Chih-chung Wu, also in attendance, for their support of the bilateral partnership.

According to the MOFA, the event was attended by over 560 officials, diplomatic envoys, and representatives of businesses and the arts and culture sector, demonstrating a close bond between Taiwan and France. (YCH-E)
