Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung hosted a banquet for a delegation led by Eswatini Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo July 2 in Taipei City to exchange views on bilateral trade and cooperation.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Khumalo and his wife were in Taiwan to attend the 30th anniversary of the Taipei City-headquartered International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF).
Lin thanked the Eswatini government for its long-standing support for Taiwan. The assistance extended by King Mswati III to facilitate President Lai Ching-te’s May visit is especially appreciated and underscores the deep bond and mutual trust between the two countries, he said.
The minister also thanked Khumalo for supporting the Taiwan Industrial and Innovation Park project. He anticipated that the park will incentivize more Taiwanese firms to invest, innovate and create jobs in the African ally and contribute to Eswatini’s economic prosperity.
In response, Khumalo said cooperation with TaiwanICDF on medicine, education, youth development and women’s empowerment has enhanced the social development and well-being of Eswatini’s people. He stressed the importance of bilateral ties, expressing hope that the TIIP will mark a new milestone in mutual prosperity.
The MOFA said that in addition to taking part in TaiwanICDF’s 30th anniversary celebrations, Khumalo also engaged in various discussions and meetings and signed the joint statement “Investing in Resilience and Prosperity: Digital Innovation for a Sustainable Future” to show strong backing for Taiwan.
