Political Deputy Minister of Education Liu Kuo-Wei witnessed the signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Education Youth Development Administration and Japan’s Kyoto University Sept. 4 in Taipei City, demonstrating commitment to nurturing science exchange.
Starting from 2027, the agreement enables four local academics to undertake short-term research and training at Kyoto University as part of the Taiwan Global Pathfinders Initiative, deepening academic relations and long-term cooperation in advanced scientific research and higher education, the MOE said.
Since the launch of the TGPI in 2025, 1,463 youths have trained abroad under its auspices and this year, the number rose to 3,073.
At a reception for Kyoto University’s Executive Vice-president for Research Promotion, Susumu Kitagawa, Minister of Education Cheng Ying-yao thanked Kitagawa signing the agreement and looked forward to further research partnerships with Kyoto University on advanced technology and social science.
