A trade and investment delegation led by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung to the Marshall Islands April 7-9 has already advanced the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project and deepened bilateral diplomatic relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said April 10.

During his trip, Lin, who headed the delegation as the special envoy of President Lai Ching-te, met with Marshall Islands President Hilda C. Hein, Nitijela Speaker Brenson Wase, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Kalani Kaneko and other ministers and traditional leaders. He also paid his respects at the final resting place of Amata Kabua, founding father and former president of the Marshall Islands.

According to the MOFA, Lin attended the first preparatory consultation for the Taiwan-Marshall Islands economic cooperation agreement and a trade and investment promotion seminar April 8. He announced at the seminar that Taiwan will continue to help advance women’s empowerment in the allied nation, the ministry said, adding that later in the day, the foreign minister and Kaneko inked a letter of intent on the establishment of a Taiwan-Marshall Islands economic and resilience fund to assist local enterprises with market expansion.

Lin and delegation members visited Pacific International, Inc. dock facilities, the state-owned Tobolar Copra Processing Authority, and islands near Majuro, the capital, to explore the investment potential of projects spanning tourism, fisheries and food processing.

Additionally, Lin presided over a commemorative plaque unveiling ceremony at the Jenrok Sports Complex, which was constructed with assistance from the Taiwanese government for the Micronesian Games. The MOFA drone diplomacy task force specially arranged for Taiwan-made drones to release confetti, symbolizing the commitment of both nations to strengthening their cooperative partnership.

The MOFA is committed to encouraging private companies to invest in allies, Lin said. Taiwan will continue to accelerate the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project to facilitate development in the Marshall Islands in the fields of agriculture, clean energy, education, health care, sports and sustainable tourism while working with like-minded countries to safeguard regional peace and stability and bolster economic resilience across the Pacific, he added.
