The recent visit by four major television networks from the Philippines has successfully showcased Taiwan’s democratic resilience, innovation and social vibrance to audiences in the Southeast Asian country.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the media outlets were GMA Network, TV5, Bilyonaryo News Channel and Golden Nation Network.
During their May 24-30 stay, group members attended a tea reception with Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung and a luncheon hosted by Vice Minister Ger Bau-shuan, as well as calling on the Mainland Affairs Council, Ministry of Agriculture and Institute for National Defense and Security Research.
The group also visited several key organizations to better understand the country’s democratic governance, social resilience, technological innovation, disaster prevention and response and maritime law enforcement. These entities included Industrial Technology Research Institute, a National Fire Agency training center and Taipei Municipal Wanfang Hospital.
Several subsequent news reports quoted the minister’s remarks about how Taiwan is working to enhance its deterrence capabilities to safeguard peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific. By spotlighting the government’s intention to deepen cooperation with the Philippines, the reports helped underscore shared values and the importance of expanded partnership between the two sides, the ministry said.
As of June 1, the media outlets have published 49 articles and reports about Taiwan, with topics spanning regional security, national defense, maritime patrol, smart medicine, agricultural development, public governance, social order and Taiwan-Philippines exchanges.
Equally impressive, a TV5 video on Taiwan’s defense capabilities reached more than 7 million views, over 270,000 likes and more than 50,000 shares. A reel about how a Taiwanese citizen was able to retrieve a lost mobile phone received more than 5.4 million views and triggered discussions about Taiwan’s public safety and social order, the MOFA said.
