The recent visit by a media group from Paraguay helped spotlight how Taiwan and the ally are advancing mutually beneficial cooperation and expanding partnership, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Aug. 12.
According to the MOFA, the group comprised journalists from the South American country’s major media outlets, including ABC Color, 5Días, Última Hora, Telefuturo and La Tribu.
During their July 19-25 stay, the group took part in a tea reception with Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung and attended a banquet jointly hosted by Deputy Ministers François Chih-chung Wu and Chen Ming-chi, the ministry said.
They also called on major business, cultural, high-tech and medical entities to better understand Taiwan’s current situation and potential for future cooperation, the MOFA added.
During the tea reception, Lin said the two allies will celebrate 70 years of diplomatic ties next year and proposed expanding bilateral cooperation in high-value-added areas such as industrial upgrading.
In addition to helping promote Paraguayan agricultural products in Taiwan, Lin said the government is also encouraging more local firms to invest in the ally to tap its green energy potential and leverage the benefits of the Mercosur economic bloc.
The ministry said that following the visit, many media outlets have run articles and in-depth reports on bilateral relations and Taiwan’s democratic governance and high-tech achievements.
The journalists also shared their personal experiences and Taiwan’s culture, natural scenery and social development on TV, broadcasting and social media platforms, the MOFA said, adding that such positive publicity will help bolster Taiwan’s global visibility. (SFC-E)
