Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung received a six-member delegation led by Jonathan Menkos, Guatemala public finance minister, April 28 in Taipei City, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
 
Lin noted that this year marked the 92nd anniversary of the bilateral relationship, adding that over nine decades the two countries have enjoyed cooperation in culture, economy, education, public health, trade and women’s empowerment.
 
The Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project encompasses information and communications security and semiconductors, facilitating industry transformation and implementing a chip road project, Lin said.
 
Guatemalan president Bernardo Arévalo is determined to improve financial transparency which aligns with core values of democratic governance, Lin said. The MOFA will continue to encourage domestic enterprises to invest there and advance partnerships.
 
Menkos lauded Taiwan’s capability in digitalized management and the high-tech industry. He added that the Guatemalan government is investing in infrastructure including roads and harbors. He anticipated that the visit would open opportunities for mutual collaboration.
 
The delegation’s itinerary includes calls on the Ministries of Digital Affairs, Economic Affairs and Finance, Hsinchu Science Park, the Industrial Technology Research Institute as well as the National Palace Museum. (POC-E)
