The warm welcome expressed by more than 40 political figures from 11 African countries for President Lai Ching-te’s upcoming visit to Eswatini was sincerely appreciated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a release April 20.
The president, accompanied by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung and other senior officials, will visit Eswatini April 22-26 to celebrate the 58th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties as well as the 40th anniversary of King Mswati III’s accession to the throne and 58th birthday, according to the Presidential Office.
The MOFA said the political figures that offered well wishes hail from Botswana, Central African Republic, Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Somaliland, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe. They sent their support through letters, social media posts and messages, and also commended Taiwan for enhancing Africa’s industrial resilience through the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project, the ministry added.
Such wide-ranging support reflects the success of the Taiwan Model, which the MOFA described as cooperative and focused on mutual benefit. It also presented the Taiwan-Eswatini partnership as an example of how the model is in line with the needs of many African countries in terms of agricultural, economic, energy, information and communications technology, and public health assistance, the ministry added.
The MOFA said the upcoming visit underscores the importance the government attaches to African issues and expected it to help deepen the friendship with leaders and key political figures in the region and expand bilateral ties, adding that Taiwan will continue to expand diverse partnerships with African countries.
