Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi welcomed a delegation of the U.S. and Canada Visitor Leadership Program Aug. 20 in Taipei City, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Chen said Taiwan, the U.S., and Canada all share the same values of promoting innovation and free-market development, and see themselves as important economic partners in the Indo-Pacific.
The three sides have enjoyed successful trade relations in recent years, Chen said, citing the conclusion of several trade agreements and joint strengthening of cooperation on artificial intelligence, digital innovation and high-tech supply chains.
The deputy minister encouraged more local governments from the U.S. and Canada to establish trade offices in Taiwan to enhance bilateral economic and educational exchange. He also welcomed the two North American countries to organize delegations to visit annual trade shows in Taiwan to explore cooperative opportunities.
In response, Beau Perschbacher, head of the delegation and senior policy advisor to Washington Governor Bob Ferguson, said Taiwan plays an important role in Indo-Pacific geopolitics and global democratic supply chains. He expected the delegation’s visit to help strengthen the bilateral friendship.
Owen Sagness, chief executive officer of Digital Nova Scotia, said he looked forward to experiencing Taiwan’s culture, exchanging views with local industry representatives and discovering cooperative opportunities. (SFC-E)
