The visit by Belize Economic Transformation Minister of State Osmond Martinez, and ETM chief executive officer Carlos Pol, is welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs July 28.
 
During their July 27-31 stay, the officials will discuss cooperative projects and aim to deepen relations between Taiwan and Belize, the MOFA said. They will also undertake visits to gain further understanding of Taiwan’s democratic, diverse society, the high-tech sector and political and economic development, to expand cooperation opportunities across a wide range of sectors, the ministry added.
 
According to the MOFA, their itinerary includes a banquet hosted by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Chen Ming-chi, visits to the Ministries of Agriculture, Economic Affairs, Environment and Finance, the National Development Council, Taiwan Stock Exchange Corp., the office of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration in Taiwan, the International Cooperation and Development Fund and the Latin American and the Caribbean Trade Office. They will also tour Taiwan Sugar Corp. Hsiaogang Factory, the Pier-2 Art Center and electric bus companies, as well as visiting the AI Wave Show in Taipei City.
 
This year marks the 37th anniversary of the Taiwan-Belize diplomatic relationship, the MOFA said, adding that the allies enjoy cooperation in areas spanning infrastructure construction, public health, medical care, personnel cultivation and women’s empowerment, as well as jointly implementing people’s livelihood and social welfare programs. The ministry will continue to promote the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project as part of its integrated diplomacy initiative to strengthen bilateral partnerships, it noted. (YCH-E)
