The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sincerely appreciates the June 1-4 visit of a 40-member delegation led by Czech Senate President Miloš Vystrčil, according to the MOFA.

On behalf of the government, Deputy Foreign Minister François Chih-chung Wu greeted Vystrčil and his delegation at Taoyuan International Airport in Taoyuan City, the ministry said, adding that the group comprises academic, corporate and Senate representatives.

The Senate president’s previous visit in 2020 paved the way for frequent reciprocal visits between high-ranking officials and boosted academic, cultural, economic, legislative, technology and tourism exchanges, as evidenced by the launch of direct flights between Taipei City and Prague and the National Palace Museum’s recent exhibit in Czechia.

Under Vystrčil’s leadership, the Senate has passed multiple resolutions opposing China’s misinterpretation of U.N. Resolution 2758 and backing Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations, the ministry said.

During his visit, Vystrčil will meet with President Lai Ching-te and receive the Order of Propitious Clouds with Special Grand Cordon. He will also call on Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim, Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu, National Security Council Secretary-General Jaushieh Joseph Wu, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung, Economic Minister Kung Ming-hsin, National Development Council Minister Yeh Chun-hsien, Health Minister Shih Chung-liang and National Science and Technology Council Minister Wu Cheng-wen.

The Senate president will also attend the 2026 COMPUTEX InnoVEX event underway through June 5 in Taipei, the premiere of the documentary “Jsem Tchajwanec” (I am Taiwanese) chronicling his 2020 trip to Taiwan and the inauguration ceremony of a bench commemorating late Czech President Václav Havel in Taipei’s Daan Forest Park.

The Central European country is one of Taiwan’s major partners, with the two sides collaborating on relief efforts for Ukraine to jointly counter authoritarian expansion. Taiwan pledged to deepen substantial cooperation with Czechia to open a new chapter in bilateral ties, the MOFA concluded. (POC-E)
