The Cabinet-level National Development Council announced that the Startup Island Taiwan Tokyo Hub initiative has assisted over 200 Taiwan startups and helped 20 Taiwan companies to settle in Japan since its establishment in 2024.

According to a May 18 NDC statement, the hub has worked with partners including the Tokyo metropolis and Osaka prefecture governments, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the chambers of commerce and industry of Tokyo and Osaka, the Mitsubishi Group, the Hankyu Hanshin Group and Mizuho Bank, Ltd. It is creating a Japan-wide resource network for artificial intelligence-related Taiwan startups to accelerate the expansion of products and services into the Japanese market.

The NDC said that the hub provides coworking space, meeting rooms and activity venues, with consultants offering company registration and legal counseling services. It exposes the startups to the Japanese market through a comprehensive resource network as well as product displays, videos and a logo wall.

The hub has assisted six startups with subsidies of approximately US$630,000 each from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the NDC said, citing examples of AI dental digital solutions enterprise, dentall, which established a branch in Tokyo earlier this year; and Fortune AI Technologies Co., Ltd., which provides an AI water recreation safety system that was adopted by resort hotels in Okinawa prefecture.

The council added that the hub has worked with organizations including the JETRO, the Tokyo Innovation Base and the Mitsubishi Group to enable the Drug Seeds Alliance Network Japan (DSANJ), Japan’s largest pharmaceutical and biotechnology platform, to open applications for Taiwanese biomedical startups to join its database.

The NDC went on to say that it led 27 startups to attend the SusHi Tech Tokyo 2026 in April, and held activities including Asia MirAI Day and Unicorn Summit 2026 to help fledgling businesses reach out to international attendees. The council will further incorporate the Tokyo hub’s localized services to focus on gaining investment and working with Japanese enterprises to further consolidate the stable industry chain between Taiwan and Japan, it added.
